01 / Start with the building
Collect elevations, approximate dimensions and clear photographs of the walls. Note the number of floors, access restrictions, openings and any existing cladding. Identify whether the scope is a new facade, an extension or a repair. This information helps the contractor understand what must happen before the stone can be fixed.
02 / Review a physical sample
Natural stone varies. Compare samples in the light where the material will be used and discuss acceptable variation, finish and thickness. Ask what is included in the supply and how replacement or extra pieces would be sourced. Do not judge the entire order by one small screen image.
03 / Discuss the installation details
Ask how the proposed fixing method suits the substrate and stone. Clarify corners, movement joints, openings, copings and transitions to other finishes. Where specialist design or engineering review is required, confirm the responsibility before work starts. Installation should follow the actual project specification and relevant product instructions.
04 / Compare the complete scope
Check whether prices include supply, preparation, cutting, fixing materials, access equipment, waste and cleaning. Confirm the measurement basis and how variations will be agreed. A lower headline square-metre rate may exclude work another proposal includes.
05 / Plan care and handover
Discuss suitable cleaning methods and any product-specific protection before handover. Ask for the agreed warranty terms in writing and keep approved samples, material details and photographs. Confirm the process for reporting items that need attention.
